Who Is Scarlet?

*All names have been changed to protect the innocent . . . and the not so innocent.

I am a screw-up. If there is a mistake, I have made it. If there is bad advice, I’ve probably taken it. Thinking before speaking has never been my strong suit. Also, I have an exceptional talent for learning things the hard way. Not to mention, at times, I have a potty mouth (I’m working on this one).

Despite all of my missteps, God safely guided me through college, law school, and miraculously past the Bar exam. Now, I’m a prosecutor, a calling to be sure. However, make no mistake. I’m still as much a screw-up today as I ever was. Also, as a prosecutor, I am surrounded by others who’ve screwed up. I guess you could say I’m an expert in bad judgment.

God Loves a Screw-up

Lucky for me, and every other human being on the planet Earth, God loves a screw-up. Don’t believe me? Just crack open the Bible. It’s chock full of people that, like me, are masters of mistake making. Yet, God uses them, loves them, and welcomes them into His house. It’s incredible and comforting to know that regardless of my missteps, God calls me His own, which is why I started The Scarlet Cords. I want everyone to know that despite all the wrongs there is a place for us at God’s table. Luke 15:2

Now, if you’re perfect, this may not be the blog for you. But if you’re like me and sometimes find yourself wondering whether God can still use you even with dirty hands and a less than stellar past, then you have come to the right place.

The Disclaimer

The Scarlet Cords mixes true crime with a little humor and a lot of Amen, and I want to make two things very clear:

First,

I am not a Biblical scholar. My law school curriculum did not include a study on Theology. However, that doesn’t stop me from reading the Bible. I’ll be the first to admit; I may not get it right. Sometimes, I find reading the Bible intimidating. Nonetheless, my ignorance only makes me want to learn more and study harder.

Second,

My goal for The Scarlet Cords is to create a place where the Word of God is first. A place where scripture and spiritual research support each post. It is also a place where I can be accountable. I want to dive into The Word till we’re swimming in hope, comfort, and grace, and our fingers are pruney. Until each of us knows, “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

Love, love, love everything about this!❤ I am so thankful God loves this screw-up (me) as well! His grace, mercy, and love keep me reaching for His hand to pull me out of the waters that seem to try to drown me often. He always pulls me out. Always.

OFTEN I am asked why I would even consider representing a “criminal.” As you said, it is a calling. I have no doubt in my mind that God has placed me in criminal law. (It was not my chosen area) I often think about the criminals of the bible and how God used them. Jesus spent time with criminals. He didn’t hang out with the elite. I want to be a light for Him to all of the “criminals” I meet.

Thank you for this blog, Scarlett😉. I am enjoying every post.

I’m so glad you’re loving The Scarlet Cords. I’m excited to see what God does with this mustard seed-sized blog. And you’re right, the criminals, trouble makers, and underdogs in the Bible are the best!
